1998
yazında göreve başlayan ve Nimitz Sınıfı süper uÁak gemilerinin
sekizincisi olan HARRY S. TRUMAN, sahip olduğu dört adet
katapult sayesinde gerektiğinde 20 saniyede bir uÁak kaldırabilecek
bir kabiliyete sahiptir. ıki adet Westinghouse nükleer reaktörün
güÁlendirdiği dört adet buhar türbini ile saatte 35 knotun
üzerindeki süratlere erişebilmektedir. Nükleer reaktörler
sayesinde gemi hiÁ yakıt ikmali yapmadan 20 yıl boyunca
seyir edebilmektedir. 98.500 tonu aşan tam yük deplasmanı,
335 m'ye varan uzunluğu ve 18 dönüme yakın alana sahip uÁak
güvertesi ile Amerika Birleşik Devletleri [ABD] Deniz Kuvvetleri'nin
en son hizmete alınan ve nükleer yakıtla güÁlendirilmiş
en modern uÁak gemisi olan USS HARRY S. TRUMAN [CVN 75]'ı
sizler iÁin gezdi.

Commissioned
late Summer 1998, USS HARRY S. TRUMAN is the newest commissioned
nuclear-powered aircraft carrier of the US Navy and the
eighth ship in the Nimitz class. The ship is 335 m in length,
displaces approximately 98,500 tonnes when fully laden and
has a 18 acre flight deck. She has four catapults with which
it is possible for the ship to launch an aircraft every
20 seconds. Two Westinghouse nuclear reactors and four steam
turbines engines power the ship to speeds in excess of 35
knots. This floating airfield's nuclear reactors are capable
of more than 20 years of continuous service without refuelling.
