yaşandı. ıki ülkenin yetkilileri, ilişkiyi güÁlendirmek iÁin
gerekli işlemleri üstlenmelidirler. GeÁmişte iki ülke arasında
zor olaylar oluşmuş, ancak problemlerin üstesinden gelmiştik.
Bazı pratik önerilerde bulunmak istiyorum.

How
Do We Strengthen Turco-US Relations
This
year has witnessed strains in the relations between Turkey
and the United States. Those who care about the two countries
should undertake actions to strengthen the relationship.
There have been difficult episodes between our two nations
in the past, but we have overcome the problems. Let me offer
some practical suggestions.
19th century British Prime Minister Gladstone is said to
have stated, "Nations have no friends, only interests."
Even those who take such a cynical view of relations should
see that it is in the best interests of Turkey and the United
States to improve their relationships.
