Irak Savaşı ABDÕnin bölgedeki etkinliğini daha da artırmasına
yol aÁtı. Şimdi artık ABDÕnin bölge iÁin daha barışcıl bir
gelecek şekillendirmek amacıyla sahip olduğu rakipsiz gücü
kullanıp kullanmayacağı merak ediliyor. Bölgede yaşayan insanların
bir bölümü yeni Ôyol haritasıÕndan oldukÁa umutlu olsa da
daha az sayıdaki bir grup geÁtiğimiz 30 ay iÁerisinde 1.700
Filistinli ile 600 ısrailliÕnin ölümüne yol aÁan bu Áatışmaların
sona ermesi iÁin daha gerÁekci bir alternatif sunmaktadır.

Finally,
Peace in the Middle East?
The
war in Iraq has certainly strengthened US influence in the
region. The question is whether the United States can use
its unrivalled power to shape a more peaceful future for
the region. While few people are optimistic about the road
map, even fewer have a realistic alternative approach to
ending a conflict that has resulted in the deaths of 1,700
Palestinians and 600 Israelis in the past 30 months.
